Daytime Woodland Pool Hide

The main targets are Red Squirrell, plus a host of Woodland birds. Species such as Nuthatch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Coal tit, Great Tit, Blue tit, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Pheasant, Wood Pigeon, Robin, Dunnock, Goldfinch all feature regularly here. Sparrowhawk and Buzzards also make appearances most days. In the Summer months there is always a chance that the badgers will appear in daylight and when feeding young around May/June time the Tawny Owl is another daytime possibility

There is to be no messing about with the set-up in anyway.

Disturbance must be kept to a minimum.

Do not wander in and out of the hide

No gaps in the netting making yourself visible in any way from outside.

No sudden lens movements

Noise to be kept to a minimum

Please take all your mess home

When the Badgers  visits please wait until they starts feeding before any shots are fired. If they react to the first shot being fired pause for around 15 seconds before you fire again and continue to be cautious until they ignore the shutter noise.

The site is covered by CCTV with audio.

Anyone found to be flouting the rules will not be welcome back to any hides run by Scottish Photography Hides.

Additional Information

It can get a bit chilly at this site in Winter so warm clothing is advisable. Despite being dry ground to be on the safe side wellington boots are advised as it can get muddy when long periods of rain have occurred. The walk to the hide is only about 30 yards, but it is down a banking that can get slippy in wet periods so good footwear is advised. Due to the location of this spot, there are no toilets on site.

PLEASE NOTE: You will be expected to be in the hide for atleast 4 hours from the point the hide manager leaves to maximise your chances however there is no obligation on the time you spend in the hide and its entirely up to you how long you give it. Just dont complain if you have a no show if you do go early.

Plates are in the this hide so a gimble heads can be used. There is also a sturdy shelf that is adequate for beanbags

Meeting Point & Time
Meeting is at 0715am at St Mary’s Church, Kirkcudbright, DG64DS. Note this Church is now converted into flats which are situated beside the Planetarium. A Keystore shop is situated on opposite corner of the crossroads.

It is important that clients are there sharp as the hide manager only has a 30 minute window and if you are late you may lose your day. It would also be appreciated if you could be suited and booted and have all required kit ready prior to the meeting. Thanks in advance.

It is our policy not to give out our number as in the past it caused to much hassle as we were receiving calls all day and night. We were forced to make the decision to only deal with emails, Facebook messenger or Instagram messages.

No, you are greeted at the meeting point then are told to follow the site manager to the hide where you park up. The hide is only a short walk from here.

NO, All bait must be supplied by Scottish Photography hides.

If you would like a hide to yourself the number of seats in that particular hide must be paid for.

Only if no other clients are using the hide that day.

Unfortunately no, We do our best to attract them regularly and have a high hit rate. Of course there will be days a no show occurs, but we are dealing with wildlife here so you must understand this can happen.

If the cancelation occurs within one month of the hide date you will unfortunately lose your day altogether. If it is over a month away you will be able to choose another date that must be taken within a 12 month period of the cancelation. With Covid-19 being a factor in recent times we have extended this period to 2 years. However no refunds will be issued on any cancelations.
