17:00 – Dusk
April – September
During our Badger photography hide session you are seated behind netting and there is a roof over head.
A tripod and 300mm with convertor to 500mm lens is required and ideally a silent shutter mode should be used if your camera has this facility.
Please note at one of the hides there is a small banking to negotiate that can be slippy in wet conditions and at that the other site there are two small stiles to cross on the relaitively flat 10 minute walk to the hide.
There is to be no messing about with the set-up in anyway.
Disturbance must be kept to a minimum.
Do not wander in and out of the hide unless completely necessary and do not under any circumstances go closer to the Sett from where you are positioned from the start.
Noise to be kept to a minimum
Please take all your mess home.
When the 1st Badger appears please wait until he starts feeding before any shots are fired.
The site is covered by CCTV with audio.
Anyone found to be flouting the rules will not be welcome back to any hides run by Scottish Photography Hides.

Silent shutter mode should be used if your camera has this facility. It is also advised that single shots are fired at delayed intervals ( roughly every 3 seconds to begin with then once the animals are familiar with the sound it is ok to shoot more regular.) Please be aware stealth is very important as Badgers have incredible hearing so please be conscious of this when at the site.
Comfort is essential to making sure you get the most out of your time here therefore comfortable clothing is advised. Please do not wear any materials that are likely to create any noise. The 10 minute walk to the main site can get a little muddy so good waterproof walking boots or wellingtons are required.
PLEASE NOTE: You will be expected to be in the hide until sunset to maximise your chances however there is no obligation on the time you spend in the hide and its entirely up to you how long you give it. Just don’t complain if you have a no show if you do go early.
Due to the location of this spot, there are no toilets on site.
Available: April – September
Max Participants: 4 Persons
Lenses: 300-500mm One hide has no shelf so its a tripod or hand here.
Meeting Point & Time
5PM at St Mary’s Church, Kirkcudbright, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland DG6 4DS
It is important that clients are there sharp as the hide manager only has a 30 minute window and if you are late you may loose your day. It would also be appreciated if you could be suited and booted and have all required kit ready prior to the meeting. Thanks in advance.
FAQ
From the start which is usually 5pm we advise you stay until dusk. However if you have had plenty of action like normally happens its your choice when you leave
Because of our schedule we cannot meet any later than the time stated
It is our policy not to give out our number as in the past it caused to much hassle as we were receiving calls all day and night. We were forced to make the decision to only deal with emails, Facebook messenger or Instagram messages.
No, you are greeted at the meeting point then are told to follow the site manager to the hide where you park up.
NO, All bait must be supplied by Scottish Photography hides.
If you would like a hide to yourself the number of seats in that particular hide must be paid for.
Not with badgers as we do not allow anyone to go near the feeding area
Unfortunately no, We do our best to attract them regularly and have a high hit rate. Of course there will be days a no show occurs, but we are dealing with wildlife here so you must understand this can happen.
If the cancelation occurs within one month of the hide date you will unfortunately lose your day altogether. If it is over a month away you will be able to choose another date that must be taken within a 12 month period of the cancelation. With Covid-19 being a factor in recent times we have extended this period to 2 years. However no refunds will be issued on any cancelations.
NOTE As the site is on a military range there can be times without prior notice the Red Flags are up and this means we cannot go on site. This is a very rare event and has only happened a handful of times in over 10 years. If this is the case another evening hide will be offered that evening or a refund can be issued.
